Dr. Maria Scouros

Meet the physicians of the Houston Cancer Institute, PA.

 

Dr. Maria Scouros founded the Houston Cancer Institute in 1984.  She is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology with an international reputation for practicing state-of-the-art medicine with a commitment to excellence.

 

Being multi-lingual, Dr. Scouros helps patients from around the world understand their options and treatment plans in their own language.  Family members and caregivers are included in her care and compassion.  She respects and answers their questions and concerns.

 

No one wants cancer, but when it strikes, patients can find comfort in Dr. Scouros' common sense and personal care.  The journey to health is a partnership between physician and patient.

Dr. Shirisha Reddy

 




Dr. George Vroulis

Dr. Shirisha Reddy graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio, TX and received her medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. She completed her residency and internship in internal medicine at UT Southwestern and underwent her fellowship training in hematology and oncology also at UT Southwestern.   She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology.
 

Dr. Reddy believes comprehensive cancer care should be a multi-faceted approach, which also incorporates the emotional and spiritual well-being of patients, as well as their family members.  She believes in combining evidence-based medicine with open dialogue with her patients to provide the most comprehensive care possible.

 
   

 


George A. Vroulis, Ph.D.

The Houston Cancer Institute, PA, is pleased to welcome Dr. George Vroulis, Ph.D. to the practice as Consulting Psychologist.

Dr. Vroulis will be joining the Houston Cancer Institute, PA, as Consultant Psychologist with a goal to providing special programs for patients and family that need cancer support from dealing with the stress of a cancer diagnosis.  He will also be helping with stress management and grief management for patients with a terminal disease, as well as other support programs and special group support lectures.

Dr. Vroulis, licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists since 1979, is well known in Houston for his work in the field of Psychology and Neuropsychology.  

After graduating from the University of Houston with his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and Neuropsychology in 1976, he received his postdoctoral internship at the Texas Research Institute of Mental Science (currently part of the University of Texas), where he worked for 10 years.

Dr. Vroulis has been in private practice since 1978. He has also served as consultant to large employers in their employee assistance programs.  In addition, he has served as Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Texas Medical School until 2007.

Dr. Vroulis has had a distinguished career in the field of Behavioral Sciences, serving as Director of Adult Neuropsychology, Laboratory, in the Division of Biological Psychiatry, at Texas Research Institute of Mental Sciences (TRIMS), and lecturer in the Psychology Department at the University of Houston.  

Dr. Vroulis has been a member of the honor societies of the University of Houston, American Psychological Association, American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, World Mental Health Federation, Houston Neuropsychological Society in the EAPA, USA, and Greece.

Dr. Vroulis’ teaching responsibilities have included Theory and Applications in Clinical Neuropsychology for residents at TRIMS from 1979 until 1985.  Most recently, he was teaching courses in Clinical Neuropsychology at the University of Indianapolis in Athens, Greece, and The London Metropolitan University in Athens, Greece, from 2007 until 2009.

Dr. Vroulis has presented many workshops over the past 20 years that address a wide range of topics from cancer support, staff stress, grief management for terminal patients and their families, Stress and stress management, Alzheimer’s disease,  anxiety, neuropsychological testing, and adult interpersonal communications.
